Our Creative Workshops

Discover BecWood Studio workshops, designed for events that call for something thoughtful and well put together. Each session is guided and hands-on, with a calm, steady pace that allows guests to settle in and focus on the process.

Guests are led through each step, creating refined shell pieces with a clean, considered finish. The experience is structured without feeling rigid, offering support while leaving room for individual expression. The result is work that feels both personal and carefully made.

A step-by-step creative experience

Each experience includes a curated selection of shells, carefully chosen design materials, and detailed instruction in decoupage. Guests learn how to layer, seal, and finish each piece using Mod Podge, followed by delicate gold edging and a smooth, glass-like high-gloss coating. The process is approachable and well-paced, making it easy for anyone to take part while still producing a finished piece that feels considered and complete.

Decoupage

Learn the basics of decoupage and apply the technique across a range of small, functional pieces. Create trinket dishes, holiday ornaments, magnets, spoon rests, soap dishes, napkin rings, keychains, tote bag charms, and wine glass charms.

This process is simple and adaptable, allowing you to work with different papers, patterns, and finishes. Each piece can be tailored in color and style, making it easy to create coordinated sets or one-of-a-kind items. The result is a collection of handmade objects that are both decorative and practical.

Mandellas

This project pairs well with a guided shell tour. Use found shells and other natural objects to create a circular or square mandala. Begin by selecting a center point, then build outward, arranging each piece with care so the composition feels balanced and cohesive. Vary the size, color, and texture of the shells to add depth and interest while maintaining a sense of symmetry.

The process is simple but thoughtful. It encourages close observation and a slower pace, allowing the design to take shape naturally while still feeling intentional.

Wind Chimes

Create wind chimes using shell fragments, whole shells, or decoupaged oyster shells. Varying the size and shape of each piece adds both visual interest and a gentle, layered sound. Natural shells offer a clean, coastal look, while decoupaged designs bring in color and pattern for a more finished feel. Suspend them with twine, fishing line, or fine wire to create a simple, handmade piece suited for indoor or outdoor spaces.

Shelling Excursions

Looking for shells is as much about timing and attention as it is about the find itself. The best moments are often tied to the tide—walking the shoreline as the water recedes reveals what has just been uncovered, a fresh layer of shells and fragments waiting to be noticed. 2-3 Hours before low tide tends to be the most rewarding, when the beach feels undisturbed and the details are easier to see.

There’s a rhythm to it. You begin to notice shapes, subtle curves, and variations in color that stand out against the sand. Some shells are immediately visible, while others require a slower eye—tones that blend in, edges that catch the light just enough to signal something worth picking up. Over time, you learn to look not just at what’s on the surface, but what might be just beneath it.

It’s also a process that asks you to be a little less careful. You have to be willing to get your feet wet, to follow the waterline, to step into the tide pools where the best pieces often settle. And more often than not, the most interesting finds come from digging—moving through small piles of shells, sifting through the mix, taking the time to search a little deeper.

Shelling is not rushed. It’s patient, observant, and a bit instinctive. And when you find the right piece, you know—it’s something you’ve noticed, chosen, and carried with intention from the shoreline.

Designed to Be Kept

Each guest leaves with one or more finished pieces, thoughtfully designed and completed by hand. Materials are selected, compositions are arranged, and each detail is shaped by the maker. No two pieces are alike. Some are minimal, others more intricate, but every piece carries a distinct, personal quality. It’s something to keep, display, or give with meaning.

All materials, tools, and instruction are provided. Shells are carefully cleaned, sorted, and prepared in advance. Workstations are fully set before guests arrive, allowing for an easy start and steady flow throughout. Guidance is present when needed, without interrupting the creative process.

Setup and cleanup are handled in full. Guests can focus on the work itself, without distraction or extra steps. The experience is designed to feel smooth, considered, and ready from beginning to end.
